Collaborating across the Atlantic

Before heading to the ASEES San Francisco Convention from London, Dr Rydzewska made a stopover at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). Swansea University has partnered with UCO to offer a programme of advanced research based in Oklahoma, leading to a Swansea PhD. There are close to 30 students in Oklahoma pursuing a PhD at Colleges across Swansea University. Joanna currently co-supervises (with Dr Sian Rees and Dr Lloyd Davies) two students in Oklahoma, John Bolander writes on the rhetoric of Donald Trump speeches and Aisa Pessagno-Delboy researches women and Peruvian cinema.

Apart from being kindly shown around a range of museums and restaurants, Joanna gave a keynote to Swansea@UCO PhD students at their annual Graduate College Conference entitled ‘Navigating the PhD Pursuit’. She also facilitated a supervisor session on ‘Strategies for Successful Supervision and Viva Preparation’ and held a number of PhD supervisory meetings with her students. We look forward to developing the ties with our friends in Oklahoma in the future.
