Different types of journalism still need the founding principles of news reporting

For her final project, MA student Lauren Dexter is looking at how new citizen-based forms of journalism are developing alongside the more traditional forms of news provision…

As part of her project, Lauren interviewed former BBC and ITV journalist Anna Brees. As someone who worked extensively within mainstream media and who now helps to train others in all forms of investigative reporting, Anna has a 360 degree insight into how the various layers of journalism are functioning. The interview between Anna and Lauren is of real value as it covers many of the real challenges that journalism is facing. We know that learning about these challenges from books and research is important, but talking to experts adds a really important dimension. Thank you to both Lauren and Anna for such an interesting discussion. It seems very clear that everyone interested in journalism – whether they be students, researchers or practitioners – all share the common goal of making journalism better and democracy stronger…
