Swansea Start Up Expo is returning to the Swansea Building Society Arena on Wednesday 5th March. The event, which will build on the success of last year’s Expo, is being organised by 4theRegion. It will give students who are interested in starting their own business the opportunity to hear from experts in a wide range of areas from accounting and marketing through to business funding and advice.
Students are being encouraged to attend this free event to connect with others and learn more about the building blocks needed to set up and grow a new business.
The event is sponsored by Swansea Council, Swansea University and UWTSD (SCALE) and is being organised by 4theRegion.
Zoe Antrobus, Managing Director of 4theRegion, comments: “The Swansea Bay Region is a fantastic place to set up and develop a new business. The region is built on SME’s and there is a strong awareness of buying from and supporting local businesses. However, the thought of setting up a business from scratch can seem quite daunting, so the Start Up Expo has been designed to help people who are at the start of their business journey. Attendees will be able to meet the organisations that can help them on their way and access crucial funding and business support to lay strong foundations for their new venture.
“As well as an exhibition and networking opportunities, we will also be hearing inspiring talks from local entrepreneurs about their journeys. We hope attendees will leave feeling empowered and ready to take the next steps in setting up a business.”
One of the speakers at the event is Nigel Hunt, an entrepreneur and the co-founder of Port Talbot-based, independent clothing brand, San Portablo. He comments: “I’m looking forward to speaking at the Start Up Expo and meeting with entrepreneurs who are starting their business journey.
“As someone who has started a clothing business after a career as a steelworker, I understand the challenges and the excitement of building something from scratch. I’ll be sharing my story and what I’ve learned along the way in the hope of inspiring others who are just starting out. There’s so much help available to new businesses and events like this are a great way of bringing it all together.”
