A few weeks ago, the School of Culture and Communication launched an exciting new initiative to support a student-led TikTok account, designed to showcase life at Swansea University through authentic student voices.
The account gives current and prospective students a behind-the-scenes look at university life, with content ranging from day-to-day experiences to creative insights into studying and living in Swansea. While students are leading on ideas and production, staff in the faculty have provided technical guidance and even delivered workshops on best practices for creating and sharing engaging digital content.

Over the past few weeks, students have been busy experimenting, filming, and editing — and their work is now live for everyone to enjoy. The account is currently run by Joe Morgan, a soon-to-be second-year student, who shared his enthusiasm for the project:

Hi there! I’m Joe, and I’ve been running the Swansea University Media and Communications TikTok account for the past year. For me, it’s all about showing off the creative, hands-on side of the course while giving a real, behind-the-scenes look at student life here in Swansea.
When I started the account, I didn’t just want it to be a place to promote the course – I wanted it to feel like a space where prospective students could get a genuine feel for what life here is like, and where current students could see themselves and their work celebrated. From campus tours and “day in the life” videos to sneak peeks of student projects, I try to cover it all.
I love using TikTok as a way to connect with people in a space they’re already scrolling through. That means keeping things engaging, fast-paced, and relatable – mixing trending sounds with original ideas that reflect the personality of the department. Everything I post is with a purpose, whether that’s to spark interest in an upcoming event, show off incredible student work, or just give an honest look at what it’s like to study media here.
