Things were a little different for graduation this year…
One of the outcomes of the Coronavirus situation has been the postponement of our graduation event for our third year and postgraduate research media and communication students. It’s a real shame as it is a fantastic way for our students to bring their studies to a close and for staff to share in our students’ pride and happiness at their achievements. We also like to meet their parents! The plan is still to have a physical event next year whenever that is possible, but in the meantime the University helped run a series of online celebration events, with ours taking place on 22 July. Students were able to browse pre-recorded speeches from the University’s Vice Chancellor, and student union representatives, before joining us online for a zoom celebration.
Dr Sian Rees, Head of the Department of Media and Communications had this message for students: “We’re a close knit team here in Media and Communications so we’ve really missed the opportunity to say congratulations to you in person. We’re immensely proud of all 70 of our graduating third years, and our graduating PhD students. This cohort has been really international in nature, with students from all over the globe, from China, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, as well as all over Wales and the UK. They will be taking their media and communication skills, talents and work experiences to new jobs and postgraduate study all over the globe – and we’re delighted that many are staying to do an MA with us here in Swansea. We wish all our students the very best for the future’. See the Class of 2020 Congratulations Message from all our Media & Communication staff here:
