Placement update: 2nd Yr Media Student Olivia Tollerson
Today is the final day of my placement, and just working in such a professional environment with an incredibly dedicated and creative team has truly inspired me to pursue this career further. I have felt so welcomed by everyone in the office.
It’s also been surreal to be involved in morning meeting discussions, hearing conversations that label yesterday’s news as “old.” I’ve had the opportunity to watch all of the live broadcasts from the gallery, seated next to the director and producers. As the only intern, I’ve been asking lots of questions and talking to everyone willing to share their career progression with me.
At the end of a staff meeting yesterday, I gathered the courage to tell everyone how much of a professional impact they had on me when I was filmed a few months ago with Ella (ITV Journalist). I made sure everyone in that room knew that their work had not only given me the faith and confidence to tell a sensitive story but had also led to other women approaching me on campus, thanking me for giving a voice to women — a credit I then passed back to the team. I wasn’t sure if it was my place to speak up, but it clearly meant a lot; I received an immediate round of applause, followed by staff members introducing themselves and thanking me for my contribution.
