Media and Communication PhD students host their 4th Annual Postgraduate Symposium, Ene Okoh qualifies for the 3MT Competition and Dr Yan Wu wins Outstanding Contribution to PGR Culture and Community Award at the 2024 Swansea University Research Festival.
Media and Communication have had great success at the annual Postgraduate Research Festival at Swansea University. The event brings together the PGR community across the university to showcase the fantastic work that PGRs are undertaking.
This years symposium was organised by three of our PhD students: Beth Evans, Olivia Noden, and Wyl Jones. The exceptional lineup of seven presentations brought together students across all years of their PhD and MA by Research, from those who have just started to those who are nearing the end of their research journey.
You can find more information on the Symposium in the article by Billie Matthews here.
We are also very proud that Ene Okoh qualified for the University Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.
The 3MT challenges graduate students to present their research and its significance to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes using only one presentation image.
It takes immense skill to condense years of research into a three-minute presentation. It also takes courage to communicate it to live audience in what is effectively a qualifying stage into the national competition.
Ene presented on ‘Mediatised Activism in Nigeria: A Case Study of EndSARS and the “Obidient” Movement in Nigeria’ and communicated her research with great oratorical flair and passion!
The Postgraduate Research Festival concluded with the PGR Awards, which recognise those who have significantly contributed to enhancing the student experience over the past year. This year, the Outstanding Contribution to PGR Culture and Community Award was won by Media and Communication Associate Professor, Dr Yan Wu.
Dr Wu received numerous nominations from both staff and students, acknowledging her instrumental role in integrating PGR students into our community and research culture.
One of the student nominations highlighted not only Dr Wu’s contributions but also her outstandingly warm and collaborative demeanour, noting how her remarkable attitude has made a significant difference to their experience during their PhD studies.
Thank you, Yan, for supporting our PGR community so brilliantly!
